Civic Breakfast with Kimber Lanning

Kimber Lanning is an entrepreneur, business leader and community development specialist who works to cultivate strong self-reliant communities and inspire a higher quality of life for people across Arizona. Lanning’s passions, which are seen throughout her work, include fostering cultural diversity and inclusion, economic resilience and responsible growth for Arizona’s urban areas.

Lanning owns three small businesses and is the Founder and Executive Director of Local First Arizona, which is the largest local business coalition in the US. LFA is a widely respected organization that is leading the nation in implementing systems and policies to ensure a level playing field for entrepreneurial endeavors of all sizes. With nearly 3,000 business members and four statewide offices, Lanning leads a staff of 22 who work on a diverse array of programs ranging from healthy local food access, entrepreneurial development in underserved communities, and rural community development, each of which plays a part in building sustainable and resilient local economies.

Lanning is consistently recognized and has received numerous awards for her diverse work and extensive leadership. In 2014, Lanning was recognized as the Citizen Leader of the Year by the International Economic Development Council, a pivotal moment in recognizing the use of Localist policies as a force for economic development. Her work in promoting adaptive reuse in Phoenix’s urban core was recognized by the American Planning Association, who presented Lanning with the Distinguished Citizen Planner Award in 2013. Lanning has also been named one of the “50 Most Influential Women in Arizona” (Arizona Business Magazine, 2011), was the recipient of the Athena Award by the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce in 2013, and was the 2014 Leader of the Year in Public Policy (Arizona Capitol Times).

Dr. Tim Kimmel is the founder and Executive Director of Family Matters, whose goal is to see families transformed by God’s grace into instruments of reformation and restoration.

Tim develops resources for families and churches and conducts conferences across the country on the unique pressures that confront today's families. Not only is Tim a well-known speaker, he has authored many books including: Grace Based Parenting and, most recently, Connecting Church and Home and Grace Filled Marriage.

Tim and Darcy count their role as parents and grandparents as one of their greatest joys. God has blessed them with four children, their spouses, and a growing flock of grandkids.

Civic Breakfast with Bobby Evans

Bobby Evans was named the Giants' Senior Vice President and General Manager on April 3, 2015. He is the eighth person to hold the title of General Manager for the organization since the Giants moved to San Francisco in 1958.

Evans is in his 22nd season in the Giants baseball operations department. During his tenure he's helped the organization capture seven Postseason berths, including four World Series appearances and three Championships.

Prior to being promoted to General Manager, Evans served in the assistant general manager's role for nine seasons. During this time, the Giants were named the Topps Organization of the Year in both 2009 and 2011 and the Baseball America Organization of the Year in 2010.

Evans, 46, first joined the Giants in 1994 as Administrative Assistant, Minor Leagues. He was later promoted to Director of Minor League Operations in 1998, Director of Player Personnel in 2005 and Vice President of Baseball Operations in January 2009.

In 2012, Evans received the Bowie Kuhn Award, which is presented annually at the Baseball Winter Meetings (since 1984) to an individual, team or organization who demonstrates support of the chapel program in professional baseball.

Evans is a 1991 graduate of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where he was the recipient of the John Motley Morehead Scholarship Award. Prior to joining the Giants, he served as an administrator in the Commissioner's Office in New York. During his three-year tenure there, he worked in baseball operations and assisted with compliance to the PBA. While in college, Evans interned with the Boston Red Sox in the player development and scouting departments during the summer of 1989.

Evans and his wife, Gwen, reside in San Francisco and have two sons, Jonathan and Jackson and a daughter, Anjali.

Civic Breakfast with Jeff Kemp

Jeff Kemp, an eleven-year quarterback in the NFL, is the son of former vice-presidential candidate and H.U.D. Secretary Jack Kemp. 

Jeff holds a B.A. in Economics from Dartmouth College and an M.B.A. from Pepperdine University. After his football career ended in 1992, Jeff dedicated himself to public service, and founded Stronger Families in the Pacific Northwest, which he led for eighteen years. His team has fostered collaboration among many groups to support families and coach healthy relationships, particularly for military, police, firefighter, and low income couples.

Today, as a Vice President and Homebuilder Catalyst, he plays a leadership-multiplying role with the national family-strengthening organization, Family Life. He has spoken to businesses and organizations for over 20 years, with over 1000 presentations.

Jeff’s most valued team is his wife Stacy and their four sons and daughter-in-law. Jeff and Stacy have been married since 1983. Intense personality differences and commitments to grow together have driven them to forge a personal, and entrepreneurial, mission to couples and marriages in need of strengthening.

Gabe is the President and Founder of Brushfire Interactive and Virtuous Software. He is also the co-founder of Shotzoom Software. He has a true passion for creating market-defining products and helping organizations re-imagine how to reach their constituents through technology.

After receiving his MBA from Arizona State University in 2002, Gabe moved into a technology leadership role at a large non-profit in Scottsdale. In 2006, Gabe became a founding member of Perk Software (later Brushfire and Shotzoom Software, in what the kids these days call a pivot) and went on to build a series of highly successful digital properties in both the non-profit and for-profit sectors.

Gabe, his wife Farrah, and their five kids live in Gilbert.

He has also been an active investor, as founder and managing general partner of boutique VC firm Integrity Partners, venture partner at ePlanet Ventures, and director and key investor in a select number of growing enterprises.

He and his family run the W Charitable Foundation – a philanthropic enterprise with a growing focus on human trafficking, sustainable solutions for poverty and homelessness, and cultural transformation in emerging economies.

John Bouma is a Partner at Snell & Wilmer, the largest law firm in Phoenix. His practice is concentrated in complex commercial litigation, including antitrust, commercial and business torts, professional malpractice defense and alternative dispute resolution.

Bouma joined Snell & Wilmer in 1962 and served as chairman for 30 years, retiring from that position this March. He served as president of the Maricopa Bar Association and led the boards of Arizona Opera and the Phoenix Art Museum. He has also been involved with Downtown Phoenix Partnership, Greater Phoenix Leadership, and the Valley of the Sun United Way.

Ty is an Arizona native and a graduate of Arizona State University. His career in the real estate and development business began in Phoenix in 1984 before moving to Prescott, where he began his family and started his own company.

After nearly two decades in a successful entrepreneurial career, Ty left the marketplace and was recruited to Heights Church in Prescott as the Executive Pastor. Ty is currently pursuing a Masters of Arts in Missional Theology and has a passion for reading, studying, and learning. He is especially interested in the intersection of faith and work. 

Recently, Ty resigned from Heights Church. He and his wife, Danette, however, continue to spend time with others, walking out the challenges of personal life, work, and being a faithful servant.

Wayne Grudem is Research Professor of Theology and Biblical Studies at Phoenix Seminary in Phoenix, Arizona. He received a B.A. from Harvard University, an M.Div. and a D.D. from Westminster Seminary, Philadelphia, and a Ph.D. (in New Testament) from the University of Cambridge, England. He has published twenty books, including his newest book, The Poverty of Nations: A Sustainable Solution. He and his wife Margaret have been married since 1969 and have three adult sons.
